Indianapolis Department of Waterworks

1220 Waterway Boulevard
Indianapolis, Indiana 46202

Since 2002, the Department of Waterworks successfully owned and managed Indianapolis Water, which provides drinking water to about 1 million people in Central Indiana. The Department’s governance was entrusted to a seven-member Board of Directors appointed by the Mayor.
The Department has kept water rates low, improved water quality and managed a successful public-private partnership with Veolia Water Indianapolis, which managed the day-to-day operations of the drinking water system.
On August 25th, 2011 the utility was transferred to the newly formed Citizens Water Authority, who is now responsible for Central Indiana’s water supply.
