Hoosier Environmental Council

Indianapolis, IN 46208

The Hoosier Environmental Council, founded more than 25 years ago, is Indiana’s largest environmental policy organization.  Our work has led to significant environmental gains, with forest, groundwater, and lake protection as part of our legacy.  Despite our gains and those of other environmental organizations in the state, Indiana continues to have some of the highest pollution levels in the country.   HEC is undaunted – launching innovative educational programs, fighting for Hoosiers in the legislature and before state agencies, and suing big polluters as a last resort.   When it comes to tackling water pollution, we put a special emphasis on two of the biggest sources of contamination: factory farms (major contributors to nutrients and E. Coli.) and coal plants (major contributors of mercury pollution and toxic ash).   We also help to engage Hoosiers in cleaning up our waters through our Water Warriors program, which promotes water quality testing and river clean-ups.
